World Cancer Day is all about creating awareness among people against Cancer. All the people of the world gather together and fight against the cancer epidemic. Moreover, awareness and education about cancer are highly created on this day about cancer.
Death from cancer is nearly 10 million per year, which makes it the second most deadly disease now. Statistics show that yet in this modern time, most of the people are unaware of the causes of cancer. Although in more than 60% of the cases the disease is curable, people are dying due to poverty, maltreatment, ignorance etc.
World Cancer Day 2023
The initiative of World Cancer Day was taken on Feb 4, 2000 in Paris by Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). The aim of the day is to introduce people to cancer related concepts, growing the community, raising funds and extending research to cure and prevent cancer. It also focuses on improving healthcare services.
With awareness among the general people, politicians would also be interested in bringing new or changing existing policies for assuring better treatment, increasing availability of medicine etc.
In a nutshell, we all expect a reduced death rate from cancer while celebrating the day every year.
When is World Cancer Day?
Well, when is World Cancer Day or When is World Cancer Day 2023? Let’s cut the answers of these two questions! World Cancer Day is an international holiday and it is greatly celebrated every year on 4th February throughout the world.
The new World Cancer Day 2022-2024 campaign theme, Close the care gap, is about identifying and addressing the barriers that exist for many people around the world in accessing the care they need.
Organized every 4 February and led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), World Cancer Day is a global initiative that aims to inspire greater awareness of cancer and action in better preventing, detecting and treating the disease.
World Cancer Day 2023 Theme
World Cancer Day 2023 marks the first year of a new three-year campaign centered on the issue of equity. The campaign theme “Close the Care Gap,” recognises the power of knowledge and challenges assumptions.
This first year of the campaign raises awareness about the lack of equity in cancer care and explains the barriers that exist for many people in accessing services and receiving the care they need – and how these barriers potentially reduce a person’s chance of surviving cancer.
A 3-year campaign for impact
- 2022: Realizing the problem

- 2024: Together, we challenge those in power
