The Adventurer’s Guide to a Perfect Bell Tent Setup

Cynthia RussellBy Cynthia RussellJanuary 23, 2024

If you are looking for an adventurer’s thrill this New Year and are at a loss for the activity to settle for, we have you covered. You may go sky diving, bungee jumping or our much-preferred, all-time favourite, camping! Of course, to camp, you need your quality bell tent as shelter from the elements. Therefore, you can learn how to set up your bell tent on the first try with the following steps:

Prep your tent ground

As an adventurer, you want to choose a campsite that calls out to you. There are enclosed private-owned campsites already cleared and prepped for campers. But if you are out exploring the wild, then chances are you are left to pick a camp location yourself. Choose a site that is flat and dry and not dangerously close to a water body, or your tent will be at risk of being soaked. Also, rid the campground of sticks, stones, branches, and other objects that may obstruct the setting up of your tent.

Spread out the ground tarp

For extra protection from moisture and as good insulation, especially during winter camping, lay down a ground tarp that will act as a base sheet for your tent’s groundsheets. It also prevents your tent’s groundsheets from mud, dirt, and debris, which can limit the long life of your tent’s canvas and the groundsheets.

Unfold the bell tent

Thereafter, unpack your tent and spread it on the ground tarp, with the groundsheet evenly spread out. At this point, you have to spread out the tent in the direction it will be when set up. This means that the tent doors and windows have to be facing your preferred direction –which may be the direction of the wind for the inflow of air or overseeing a beautiful view of nature.

Stake down the tent

To secure the tent to the ground, peg down the edges of the groundsheet. Using a hammer, drive the metal pins to the ground at a 45° angle through the plastic or metal loops provided at the base sides of the tent. Do this for all sides and smoothen out the sheet as you go to avoid ripples and tension until the tent is secured to the ground.

Set up the poles

After pegging the groundsheets, fix the tent poles through their designated openings to lift the tent to a standing position. First, go for the centre pole that connects the tent’s roof to the groundsheet by passing it through the centre of the roof and ensuring both ends of the pole are covered with a rubber or plastic rim so as not to tear through the tent canvas. Next, insert the A-line pole through the designated grommet at the top of the door and the two sides of the pole over the sides of the door frame, connecting them to the loops or holes at the base sides of the door frames.

Tie the guy ropes

Finally, connect the guy ropes or lines of the tent by tying them at the sides of the tent and staking them some meters away from the tent at a 45° angle. Ensure to zip up your tent door before tying and staking the guy ropes.

There you have it! A quick and easy guide to setting up your bell tent!

Conclusively, if you want to buff things up or put on the ritz and glam, switch your camping experience to a glamping session in this Boho Bell Tent for a new camping feel.
