Did you know that? Once upon a time, Finland was ruled by Sweden and Russia. At first, Finland was a part of Sweden. Finland was ruled by Sweden from the medieval times to the early 19th century. But after the Sweden’s war against Napoleon, Russia invaded Finland in 1808 because Sweden’s war didn’t go well against Napoleon. And then in 1809, Finland had been a part of the Russian Empire. But the revolution of Russia helped Finland to make a movement for independence. Following the Russian defeat in the First World War, Finland got a chance to withdraw from Russian rule. After a long journey, Finland pushed for independence and declared it’s independence from Russia on 6th December, 1917 by the parliament. Though it was not national, the independence day of Finland was first celebrated in 1917 on 6th December.
