The Meaning Head of The Year, The Festival Begins on The First Day of Tishre, The Seventh Month of The Hebrew Calendar. The Festival Falls During September or October, a 10 Day Period of Festival. Rosh Hashanah Commemorates The Creation of The World and Marks The Beginning of The Days of Awe.

This Year Rosh Hashanah 2023 Begins on Sunday, September 15 and Ends on The Evening of Tuesday, September, 17. However The Exact Date of Rosh Hashanah Varies every Year. The Date Fixed by Hebrew Calendar, where it begins on the first day of the seventh month.

Celebrating Rosh Hashanah

The Traditional Rosh Hashanah Celebration Start With Candle Lighting in The Evening. Then More Traditional Festive Meals with Sweet Delicacies During Night and Day. Most Traditional Celebration is Prayer Services that include the sounding of the ram’s horn (Shofar) on both mornings and desisting from creative work.

Food is an important part of Rosh Hashanah Celebration. May Special Foods are Included in a traditional Meal as Blessing. Sweet Foods Eaten To Symbolize  our hope for a “sweet new year”. On This Day, We Enjoy “New fruit” Which Recently Come into Season but we have not yet. The fish also symbolizes the translation of Rosh Hashanah, which means “Head of the Year” in Hebrew.

A pretty, symbolic bread called challah is baked, sweetened with raisins and braided into a round shape. Apples are dipped in honey, again symbolizing sweetness. All of these traditions are important, because they help to connect us to the deeper meaning of the Rosh Hashanah holiday.

  • One of the most significant rituals during Rosh Hashanah is the blowing of the Shofar, or ram’s horn. It is used as a call to repentance during the High Holy Days.
  • Pomegranates are eaten because the seeds are symbolic of the many commandments in the Torah that Jews must fulfill.
  • Another popular ritual is to walk to a river or stream and recite special prayers of penitence. Afterward, one throws breadcrumbs in the river, to symbolically cast away sins.

After eating LEEK or CABBAGE, say: “May it be Your will, God, that our enemies be CUT OFF.”

After eating BEETS, say: “May it be Your will, God, that our adversaries be REMOVED.”

After eating DATES, say: “May it be Your will, God, that our enemies be FINISHED.”

After eating GOURD, say: “May it be Your will, God, that the decree of our sentence should be TORN apart, and may our merits be PROCLAIMED before You.”

After eating POMEGRANATE, say: “May it be Your will, God, that our merits increase as the seeds of a POMEGRANATE.”

After eating the HEAD of a sheep or fish, say: “May it be Your will, God, that we be as the HEAD and not as the tail.
