Best Places To Visit in Bangalore on A Vacation

  • Bangalore Palace 

Modelled after England’s Windsor Castle, Bangalore Palace is an imposing Tudor-style building constructed in 1887. The splendid architecture featuring fortified towers, arches, woodcarvings, and Gothic windows is impressive. Take an audio tour of the palace to see the extravagant interiors showcasing Victorian furniture, paintings, trophies, family photos, and other antiquities belonging to the Wodeyars. The lush lawns outside are perfect for strolls.

  • Cubbon Park 

Spread across 300 acres, Cubbon Park is an oasis of greenery in the midst of Bangalore’s concrete jungle. Take a nature walk, admiring the flower beds, bamboo groves, and shady trees all around. The park has some iconic Bangalore landmarks like the State Central Library, Attara Kacheri, and the High Court. Visit the Bal Bhavan children’s park or just relax under a tree with snacks from the local vendors. An ideal place to unwind.

  • Lalbagh Botanical Gardens 

Lalbagh, first laid out in the 18th century by Hyder Ali, is one of India’s most renowned botanical gardens, spanning 240 acres. Take a tour to see thousands of plant species, including exotic tropical trees, scented flowers, lotus pools, and a lush glasshouse modelled on London’s Crystal Palace. Join a guided walk to learn more about the diverse flora. The biannual flower shows here draw huge crowds.

  • Bannerghatta National Park 

Located 22 km outside Bangalore, Bannerghatta National Park is home to a wildlife sanctuary, a biological reserve, and a zoo. Take a jeep safari through the dense forest to spot animals like bison, deer, foxes, tigers, lions, and elephants in their natural habitat. The zoo has a reptile park, an aquarium, an aviary, and a butterfly enclosure. There’s also a museum, a crocodile farm, and a serpentarium to explore.

  • Vidhana Soudha 

The grand Vidhana Soudha houses the state legislature and secretariat of Karnataka. This imposing building, constructed in 1956, showcases the neo-Dravidian style of architecture. Admire the four domes, 18 towers, intricate carvings, wooden decorations, and other architectural elements. The lighting of the building on Sunday evenings is a spectacle worth watching. Guided tours are available, but you need prior permission.

  • Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace 

Built in the late 18th century as Tipu Sultan’s summer retreat, this beautiful palace gives fascinating insights into the life and tastes of the legendary ruler. The teak pillars, ornamental frescoes, and arches reflect Indo-Islamic architecture. See the tombs of Tipu Sultan’s parents and climb up to the upper levels for panoramic views. The gardens have flowering plants, and a small museum displays artifacts from Tipu’s time.

  • ISKCON Temple 

Dedicated to Lord Krishna, the ISKCON Temple is a splendid place to experience the spiritual traditions of Vaishnavism. The marble temple hall has shrines decorated with deities, paintings, and ornaments. Participate in the prayer ceremonies and chanting sessions held daily. Relish the Prasadam vegetarian meal. You can also learn about Vedic philosophy, take part in cultural programs, and browse the in-house store.

  • Wonderla Amusement Park 

Wonderla Amusement Park is a fun place to enjoy thrill rides, water slides, and attractions. Get an adrenaline rush on rollercoasters like the Recoil, Y-Scream, and Sky Wheel. For younger kids, there are fun rides like the Caterpillar Train and Convoy. Head to the water park to enjoy exciting slides and pools. Wonderla follows stringent safety practices and has dining areas and lockers too. A perfect spot for families.

  • Government Museu

Established in 1865, the Government Museum is one of the oldest museums in India, with an extensive collection of archaeological finds and artifacts. Marvel at ancient sculptures, inscriptions, jewellery, coins, musical instruments, fossils, paintings, and more belonging to different periods. Galleries are dedicated to geology, zoology, botany, technology, and more. The venue also hosts cultural events, seminars, and temporary exhibitions.

  • The Art of Living International Centr

Located 21 kilometres from Bangalore, this sprawling centre is the headquarters of the Art of Living Foundation. You can take rejuvenating yoga and meditation sessions on the tranquil ashram premises. There are also Ayurvedic spas, an organic farm, and a vegetarian restaurant. The colourful Vyakti Vikas Kendra Hall has a striking architectural style. You can volunteer or learn spiritual practices like Sudarshan Kriya.

  • Ulsoor Lake 

One of Bangalore’s biggest lakes, Ulsoor Lake, is a scenic recreational spot for walks and boating. Walk or jog around the tree-lined promenade, admiring the lush islands dotting the lake. Early mornings are ideal to see various birds around the lake. You can also spend time at recreational areas like the children’s park, amphitheatre, and courts nearby. Try the street food along the lake.

  • Shiva Temple, Bull Temple 

A unique temple in Bangalore, the Bull Temple has a mammoth monolithic bull statue dedicated to Nandi measuring 4.5m in height and 6.5m in length. Built in the 16th-century Dravidian style, the temple’s white granite walls have carved frescoes depicting temple scenes. The big bull statue draws devotees from across the city, especially on auspicious days when it is decorated with flowers and garlands.

Innovative Film City provides a peek into the entertainment world through various attractions based on film shootings and TV production. There are replicas of famous monuments, dinosaur models, haunted houses, funny mirrors, and carnival games. You can also try activities like go-karting, bungee jumping, and mountain rafting.
